2008 OHL Priority Selection conducted on Saturday

The Ontario Hockey League conducted the 2008 OHL Priority Selection process today.

301 minor midget-aged players were selected today, including John McFarland of the Toronto Jr. Canadiens, who was the first overall pick of the Sudbury Wolves. Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs' teammates Gregg McKegg (Erie Otters) and Steven Shipley (Owen Sound Attack) were the next two picks followed by Erik Gudbranson of the Ottawa Jr. 67's to the Kingston Frontenacs. The Peterborough Petes selected Ryan Spooner from the Ottawa Jr. Senators fifth overall.


Ryan O'Connor (sixth overall to the Barrie Colts), Tyler Toffoli (seventh overall to the Ottawa 67's), Devante Smith-Pelly (eighth overall to the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors) and Cody McNaughton (12th overall to the Guelph Storm) were also selected in the first round from the Jr. Canadiens, who won the OHL Cup Showcase Tournament in March.


The Canadiens led the way with 14 players selected during the 15 round process. The Toronto Marlies, who finished second at the OHL Cup were next with 11 players selected. The Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs had 10 players selected while the Toronto Red Wings and York Simcoe Express each had nine players selected.
