
The 2009 OHL Priority Selection began live online on Saturday May 2, 2009 at 9:00am.
The Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds had the first overall pick in the 2009 Priority Selection and announced Daniel Catenacci from the York Simcoe Express as the first overall selection.
The entire draft show can still be viewed complete with selection announcements from the first three rounds, player profiles and features, team overviews, and phone interviews with drafted players such as Matthew Puempel (sixth overall to Peterborough), Ryan Strome (eighth overall to Barrie), and Garrett Meurs (13th overall to Plymouth). Host Terry Doyle speaks live with Daniel Catenacci who was named the first overall pick, as well as P.K Subban of the Belleville Bulls, and OHL Commissioner David Branch. Doyle is joined by panelists Wayne Clark and Tim Cherry, providing analysis of the first three rounds of the 2009 OHL Priority Selection.
300 players were selected including 169 forwards, 94 defencemen, and 37 goaltenders. 86 players were drafted from the Ontario Minor Hockey Association, with 74 from the Greater Toronto Hockey League. 54 players were taken from the Minor Hockey Alliance of Ontario, and 54 were drafted from hockey programs in the United States. 19 players are from the Ottawa District Hockey Association, seven are from the Northern Ontario Hockey Association, with three from Hockey Northwestern Ontario, and three from various other programs in Canada.

2008 OHL Priority Selection Review:
301 minor midget-aged players were selected today, including John McFarland of the Toronto Jr. Canadiens, who was the first overall pick of the Sudbury Wolves. Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs' teammates Gregg McKegg (Erie Otters) and Steven Shipley (Owen Sound Attack) were the next two picks followed by Erik Gudbranson of the Ottawa Jr. 67's to the Kingston Frontenacs. The Peterborough Petes selected Ryan Spooner from the Ottawa Jr. Senators fifth overall.
Ryan O'Connor (sixth overall to the Barrie Colts), Tyler Toffoli (seventh overall to the Ottawa 67's), Devante Smith-Pelly (eighth overall to the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors) and Cody McNaughton (12th overall to the Guelph Storm) were also selected in the first round from the Jr. Canadiens, who won the OHL Cup Showcase Tournament in March.
The Canadiens led the way with 14 players selected during the 15 round process. The Toronto Marlies, who finished second at the OHL Cup were next with 11 players selected. The Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs had 10 players selected while the Toronto Red Wings and York Simcoe Express each had nine players selected.

Jack Ferguson Award History
The "Fergie" is presented annually to the player selected first overall in the Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection. The award recognizes the dedication and contributions made by Jack Ferguson during his 25 year association with the Ontario Hockey League, first as a scout with the Ottawa 67's and followed by his appointment as head of the OHL's Central Scouting Bureau in 1981 as its Director of Central Scouting.
