2011-12 OHL Awards Ceremony Recap

The 2011-12 OHL Awards Ceremony took place on Tuesday June 5 at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto where 15 major awards were presented. 

The program also included congratulations and recognition from Commissioner David Branch to the OHL Champion London Knights and OHL Cup Champion Mississauga Rebels.

Jack Miller, the voice of the OHL’s Belleville Bulls was the Master of Ceremonies.


Mickey Renaud Captain’s Award (presented by Mark Renaud) – Andrew Agozzino (Niagara IceDogs)

Leo Lalonde Memorial Trophy (presented by P.K Subban) – Andrew Agozzino (Niagara IceDogs)

A three-year captain with the IceDogs, Top Overage player Agozzino tied for fifth in league scoring with a career-high 88 points in 67 games.

Jack Ferguson Award (presented by Jack Ferguson) – Connor McDavid (Erie Otters)

McDavid was selected first overall in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection from the Toronto Marlboros

Dan Snyder Memorial Trophy (presented by Graham Snyder) – Andrew D’Agostini (Peterborough Petes)

D’Agostini is the league’s Humanitarian of the Year for his efforts in support of Cystic Fibrosis Canada.

William Hanley Memorial Trophy (presented by Jack Miller) – Brandon Saad (Saginaw Spirit)

Saad scored 76 points in just 44 games while recording just 38 penalty minutes.

OHL Executive of the Year (presented by Jeff Hunt) – Steve Bienkowski (Kitchener Rangers)

Bienkowski championed the 2012 expansion of the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex.

Matt Leyden Trophy (presented by Brian Kilrea) – Greg Gilbert (Saginaw Spirit)

Gilbert earned Coach of the Year honours with a 20-10-1-5 record for 46 points helping the Spirit climb to fifth place.

Roger Neilson Memorial Award (presented by Shari Dorr) – Kyle Pereira (Guelph Storm)

Pereira is the Top Academic University player excelling in six courses at the University of Guelph.

Ivan Tennant Memorial Award (presented by Dave Tennant) – Adam Pelech (Erie Otters)

Bobby Smith Trophy (presented by Matt Pelech) – Adam Pelech (Erie Otters)

Pelech is the Top High School and Scholastic Player of the Year receiving a 95% average in Grade 12.

Eddie Powers Memorial Trophy (presented by Steven Stamkos) – Michael Sgarbossa (Sudbury Wolves)

Sgarbossa led the league in scoring with 102 points in 66 games.

Emms Family Award (presented by P.K Subban) – Aaron Ekblad (Barrie Colts)

Ekblad was named Rookie of the Year with 29 points in 63 games.

Max Kaminsky Trophy (presented by Tom Kaminsky) – Dougie Hamilton (Niagara IceDogs)

Hamilton was named Defenceman of the Year with 72 points in 50 games.

OHL Goaltender of the Year (presented by Cameron Gaunce) – Michael Houser (London Knights)

Red Tilson Trophy (presented by Steven Stamkos) – Michael Houser (London Knights)

Houser was the Most Outstanding Player of the Year matching a league record with 46 wins in goal.
