Attack’s Centorame becomes top-scoring defenceman in franchise history
Fifth-year overage veteran Santino Centorame is the Owen Sound Attack’s new franchise leader in career points by a defenceman.
Centorame pitched in with two assists on Saturday setting the 156-point record while helping the Attack post their first-ever 100-point season in a 7-2 win over the visiting Kitchener Rangers. The captain added to his total on Sunday with a goal in an 8-5 road win over the Guelph Storm to close out the 2016-17 season.
His career point total in an Attack uniform stands at 157 including 27 goals and 130 assists over 229 regular season games.
His 157 points with Owen Sound surpass Chris Bigras for the club’s all-time lead. Bigras, who is now playing in the Colorado Avalanche organization, set his record of 155 points during the 2014-15 season.
Centorame finishes the season second in scoring among OHL blueliners with 73 points including seven goals while tying for the league-lead with 66 assists in 68 games.
A right-shot rearguard from Mississauga, Ont., Centorame was originally London’s fourth round (88th overall) pick in 2012 from the Mississauga Rebels Minor Midgets. He was part of an OHL Cup Champion Rebels squad that also included prominent names in Robby Fabbri, Stephen Desrocher, Kyle Jenkins, David Miller and Dylan Di Perna.
The Attack wrap-up their best regular season in franchise history with 102 points powered by a 49-15-2-2 record and will embark on the 2017 OHL Playoffs next week against the Kitchener Rangers.
