Christian Purboo commits to Battalion

North Bay, Ont. – The North Bay Battalion announced prior to Friday’s game in Mississauga that 17-year-old goaltender Christian Purboo has committed to the club.

The Battalion’s 11th round (216th overall) pick in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection was selected from the Mississauga Rebels Minor Midget club. The Oakville, Ont. product returned to the Rebels program for his Midget AAA season, guiding them to a bronze medal finish at the 2017 Telus Cup, Hockey Canada’s national championship for Midget Hockey.

Purboo earned Top Goaltender honours at the 2017 Telus Cup Tournament, registering a 1.00 goals-against average and a .950 save percentage over five contests.

The 6-foot-2, 181Ib. netminder has appeared in four games with the OJHL’s Oakville Blades so far this season, going 3-1-0 with a 2.00 goals-against average and a .929 save percentage. He is the younger brother of Windsor Spitfires forward and 2017 Mastercard Memorial Cup champion Cole Purboo.
