FLINT 11 – SAGINAW 2
The Flint Firebirds weren’t messing around on Tuesday, getting an all-time franchise record-tying five goals from Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Kole Sherwood (16, 17, 18, 19, 20) in an 11-2 road win over rival Saginaw. Sherwood also pitched in with two assists for seven points, joining linemate Ryan Moore (21) as a plus-7 on the night. Mathieu Henderson (9), Jalen Smereck (6), Jake Durham (4), Everett Clark (11) and newcomer Maurizio Colella (8) also got in on the scoring as the Firebirds set a new club record with their 11-goal output. Flint outshot Saginaw 35-27, climbing six points ahead of them in the West Division standings while leap-frogging the Sarnia Sting in the process to take control of third place. Sherwood’s five goal-game is the first in the OHL this season while veteran captain Alex Peters had three assists in the win. The aforementioned Moore finished the game with a goal and four assists while C.J. Clarke had a pair of helpers in his Firebirds debut. Saginaw goals came from Brady Gilmour (12) and Mike Davies (4) while defenceman Hayden Davis made his Spirit debut.
ERIE 6 – KITCHENER 3
Newly acquired centreman Anthony Cirelli had an assist in his debut as the Erie Otters doubled up the visiting Kitchener Rangers 6-3. Taylor Raddysh (24) earned first star honours with a goal and three assists while Alex DeBrincat (33, 34) scored twice and Dylan Strome (6) had a goal and two helpers. Warren Foegele (14) and Kyle Maksimovich (11) also got in on the offence as the Otters outshot Kitchener 29-15. Erie pulls into a first place tie with London atop the Midwest Division with a record of 27-9-2-1. Kitchener goals came from Joseph Garreffa (13), Darby Llewellyn (10) and Connor Bunnaman (19) as the Rangers lost their third straight contest. Erie remains undefeated in regulation on home ice through 21 games at Erie Insurance Arena this season.
