Barrett Hayton Commits to Greyhounds

Sault Ste. Marie, ON – Soo Greyhounds General Manager Kyle Raftis is pleased to announce today the commitment from 2016 draft pick Barrett Hayton.

The Peterborough, ON product was the Greyhounds first round pick (9th overall) in this past April’s OHL Priority Selection.

“We are very excited to announce the commitment from first round draft pick Barrett Hayton. Barrett shows great promise as a Greyhound, embodying the qualities we look for in a student athlete. He is coming off a great season with the Toronto Red Wings on the ice and in the classroom attending the prestigious Upper Canada College,” began Raftis.


“Barrett is a tremendously skilled forward that has an extremely high hockey IQ who will add another great piece to our lineup. We look forward to maximizing his potential during his time with the Soo Greyhounds hockey program,” he continued.

The 6’1″, 179lb. centreman recorded 36 goals, 37 assists and 74 points in 59 games with the Toronto Red Wings Minor Midgets last season. He followed up that performance with six points over five games at the 2016 OHL Cup.

Hayton registered three goals over five games with Team GTHL Blue at the OHL Gold Cup last month.

Hayton, who was in Sault Ste. Marie in May for the team’s Development Camp, will return for Training Camp in late August.
