IceDogs’ Mark Visentin Named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Mark Visentin of the Niagara IceDogs is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending February 6.  In two starts Visentin posted two wins including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and a save percentage of .967.

Visentin had one of his best games of the year on Saturday stopping all 37 shots he faced as first star of a 2-0 win over the Brampton Battalion.  The shutout was his third of the season, while the 37 saves is the most he has made in a winning decision so far this season.  His week also included a 22-save performance as part of a 6-2 win over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Thursday night.

Visentin, an 18-year-old from Waterdown, ON, is playing in his third OHL season with the IceDogs.  A member of Canada’s National Junior Team, Visentin was selected in the first round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Phoenix Coyotes.  He carries the league’s best save percentage at .923 while his goals-against-average of 2.33 ranks second among OHL goaltenders.

Audrey Makarov of the Lewiston MAINEiacs and Ty Rimmer of the Prince George Cougars were also considered for the award after each posting 2-0-0-0 records with a shutout victory.  Aubrey carried a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .969 while Rimmer had a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .960.
