Kaliyev and Robertson named to Team USA for Hlinka Gretzky Cup
USA Hockey has announced its Under-18 Men’s Select Team roster that will compete August 6-11 at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Red Deer and Edmonton, Alberta.
The announcement was made following a week-long Boys Select 17 Player Development Camp which concluded Monday at the Northtown Center in Amherst, New York, with its annual all-star game.
The 2018 U.S. Under-18 Men’s Select Team features four players from the Canadian Hockey League including goaltender Dustin Wolf (Everett Silvertips), and forwards Arthur Kaliyev (Hamilton Bulldogs), Nicholas Robertson (Peterborough Petes), and Luke Toporowski (Spokane Chiefs).
Kaliyev was one of nine players on the Under-18 roster who helped lead the U.S. Under-17 Men’s Select Team to victory at the 2017 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament, held last summer in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

Newly rebranded as the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, the tournament is an annual event held each August for national under-18 teams from around the world. It’s one of the only true best-on-best international competitions for this draft-eligible age group and it represents the first major event on the scouting calendar each season for NHL talent evaluators. In all, 77 alumni of the Hlinka Gretzky Cup were selected by NHL clubs, including seven of the top 10 picks and 19 first-rounders.
The 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup will be played in North America for the first time since 1996. The competition will include Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States.
