Flint, Mich. – The Flint Firebirds announced today that forward Kyle Harris, a seventh-round pick, 128th overall in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection, has committed to an Ontario Hockey League Standard Player Agreement and education package with the Firebirds.
“Kyle is an extremely smart hockey player and an elite skater that wanted to be a Flint Firebird,” said Flint Firebirds General Manager Barclay Branch. “When a player is in the position that Kyle was, having so many opportunities in front of him, to be the choice of the player and the family speaks volumes about the program that we have to offer here in Flint.”
Harris, a native of East Aurora, NY, was heavily recruited with NCAA options before choosing to continue his hockey and academic development in Flint. The centerman played his AAA youth hockey with the Toronto Marlboros last season and recorded 26 points (10G, 16A) in 32 games.
“Coming in as a late signee, I’ve had the chance to see how first-class this organization really is,” said Harris. “From the way everyone is treated, to the first impression of our fan base at the Fan Fest last night, it’s so good to be part of this atmosphere. It’s been a dream of mine to play in the Ontario Hockey League since I was a kid and I’m really excited to start this new chapter of my life.”
In his first pre-season game with Flint last Friday, Harris notched the third goal of the contest against the defending CHL Memorial Cup Champions, Windsor Spitfires.
Harris will wear jersey number 19 with the Firebirds this season.
