Milestone Moments: Dec. 29/17
A pair of defencemen scored their first OHL goal in the same game on Friday as Niagara’s Billy Constantinou and Sudbury’s Ryan O’Bonsawin both had memorable nights. Here’s a closer look at their accomplishments.
BILLY CONSTANTINOU (NIAGARA ICEDOGS):
Sixteen year-old defenceman Billy Constantinou had himself a night on Friday, helping the Niagara IceDogs defeat the Sudbury Wolves 7-4 on the road with a goal and two assists. The marker was the first of Constantinou’s young OHL career as the Scarborough, Ont. native wired a hard wrister over the shoulder of Sudbury’s Mario Culina with 4:21 to go in the first period. Niagara’s second round pick in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection, Constantinou is a graduate of the Toronto Marlboros Minor Midget program and has a goal and seven assists in 18 games this season.
RYAN O’BONSAWIN (SUDBURY WOLVES):
Though he scored a goal in the QMJHL last season, recent Sudbury Wolves addition Ryan O’Bonsawin scored the first of his OHL career on Friday. The Wolves fell 7-4 to the Niagara IceDogs but the 18-year-old local product found the back of the net when he threw a puck toward the goal with 6:39 left in the third period. O’Bonsawin has spent much of this season with the NOJHL’s Rayside-Balfour Canadians after playing 35 games with the QMJHL’s Gatineau Olympiques last season. The product of the Sudbury Wolves Minor Midget program has played in three games with Sudbury this season.
