Milestone Moments: Jan. 26/18

Two rookie defencemen scored their first career OHL goal on Friday night as Peterborough’s Gleb Babintsev and Erie’s Aidan Timmermans connected for milestone markers. Here’s a closer look at those goals.

Russian rearguard Gleb Babintsev picked up his first career OHL goal 10:51 into the second period on Friday in Mississauga, knotting the score at two in an eventual 4-3 overtime loss to the Steelheads. Brady Hinz and Pavel Gogolev picked up assists on Babintsev’s first. An 18-year-old from Moscow, Russia, Babintsev has a goal and six assists in 43 games this season. He was Peterborough’s first round (43rd overall) pick in the 2017 CHL Import Draft.

Erie Otters rookie defenceman Aidan Timmermans wired a wrister over the shoulder of Hamilton’s Nick Donofrio with 6:41 left in the third period, bringing the Otters within two goals before time ran out on their comeback bid in a 4-3 home ice loss. Kurtis Henry and Gera Poddubnyi had assists on Timmermans’ first career marker. The 17-year-old from Toronto has a goal and an assist in 19 games with Erie this season after being the club’s seventh round pick in 2016.
