Milestone Moments: Nov. 24/17


Soo Greyhounds rookie Joe Carroll didn’t just score his first OHL goal on Friday, he scored his first two OHL markers, helping the Hounds trounce visiting Kitchener 8-2. Carroll opened the scoring 7:06 into the first period on an assist from Hayden Verbeek. The Carp, Ont. native teamed up with Tim Gettinger 11:07 into the second to find his second of the night. A 6-foot-2, 194Ib. 16-year-old, Carroll was Sault Ste. Marie’s fourth round pick in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection from the Carleton Place Canadians Midgets. He recently represented Team Canada White at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.


Big 6-foot-7 Windsor Spitfires rookie defenceman Lev Starikov got in on the offence, lifting his first career OHL goal over the shoulder of Kingston’s Jeremy Helvig on Friday. The Spitfires took a 5-4 shootout victory as Starikov, a 17-year-old from Kazan, Russia, played a big part in the success. Starikov’s first career marker came on an assist from Mathew MacDougall.
