OHL Alumni of the Month Spotlight

The OHL Alumni Association is pleased to continue the OHL Alumni of the Month program.

This five part web series is designed to recognize former players from all 20 member clubs achieving success in the corporate, business, or professional world.

The final OHL Alumni of the Month feature for the 2016-17 season includes Colin MacDonald (Flint Firebirds), Chris Morrison (Barrie Colts), Scott Simmonds (Hamilton Bulldogs), and Michael Curtis (Erie Otters).

Colin MacDonald

Plymouth Whalers (2009-2013)

Post-Secondary School Attended: University of Western Ontario

Colin is a model citizen on and off the ice.  A 14th round draft pick who with commitment and hard work made himself one of the go to guys on a solid defensive core.  After four seasons with the Whalers, Colin is now attending the University of Western Ontario where along with playing on the Men’s Varsity Mustangs, is pursuing a degree in Business Administration.

Chris Morrison

Barrie Colts (2003-2006)

Post-Secondary School Attended: Saint Mary’s University

After a three year campaign with the Colts, Chris utilized his education package at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax, NS.  While attending school he played for the Huskies Men’s Hockey team where he amassed 29 points over four seasons.  After earning his degree, Chris is now a police officer in York Region.

Scott Simmonds

Post-Secondary School Attended: University of Guelph

After four years with the Bulls, the 2014 OHL Humanitarian of the Year utilized his scholarship package at the University of Guelph where he is pursuing a degree in Marketing Management.  Scott is a true athlete playing on both Men’s Varsity Rugby and Varsity Hockey teams.  As a first year player, he was a vital part in the Gryphons’ 2015 OUA Championship team. Recently Scott traveled overseas with Team Canada to compete in the 28th Annual Winter Universiade in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Scott is the definition of a leader, and a great example of the many transferable skills a player can obtain through their career in the OHL.

After a five year career in the OHL between Belleville and Erie, Michael took advantage of his scholarship package to attend Saint Mary’s University where he is pursuing a degree in Accounting and plays on the Men’s Varsity hockey team.  This season Michael was awarded the Frank H. Sobey Award for excellence in Business Studies.  Along with playing hockey for the Huskies, Michael finds time to be a mentor to better support mental health among his fellow student athletes, helps acclimatize incoming international students at the school, and runs hockey camps in August to promote youth in sports. Future plans for Michael include graduating, pursuing his CPA, and becoming a partner in an established accounting firm.
