Steve McLean (right) and Darius Domingues (left) have been fixtures at Ontario Hockey League rinks for years and along with friend Brian Thompson produce a weekly show called the OHL Fanboys Podcast.
Last week they took their show on the road and behind the scenes at the 2018 Sherwin-Williams CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in Guelph.
As a longtime fan of the Canadian Hockey League it was with great excitement that the league reached out to ask us at the OHL Fanboys Podcast to produce a video segment chronicling our experience covering the 2018 Sherwin-Williams CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.
It is our fourth season producing a podcast focused on the fans point of view of the OHL and in that time we have managed to take part in some exciting events but last Thursday’s event became an instant highlight for us. We took as much time as possible to soak in the day while keeping focused on the task at hand. Whether it was taking in the practices and warm ups from the bench, interviewing players (which is something we normally don’t do) or media scrums with Don Cherry and Eric Lindros it was a day we won’t soon forget as fans.
In the end Darius and I were excited at how things turned out not just on the video side of things but just watching the game itself, seeing so many high caliber players in one night giving their all for NHL scouts was a fantastic experience to take in live.
For years we have advocated to anybody who would listen that following major junior hockey isn’t just a pastime but a passion.
It’s a passion that we have turned into a show and having it become more than just that and getting to legitimately take part in events is something we could have never even imagined.
We hope our fellow fans enjoy the content we have produced not just at the Top Prospects Game but on a weekly basis with the podcast. We are grateful to all of our listeners and thank everybody for their support.
