OHL News – Radio Edition for Feb 16/18

OHL News – Radio Edition with host Terry Doyle and presented by Bauer continues for the 2017-18 regular season bringing fans insight from feature guests as well as news and notes from around the league each and every week over the airwaves.

This week’s segment features overage goaltender Mario Culina who enters weekend play with a perfect 10-0-0-0 record as a member of the Kitchener Rangers.  In those 10 appearances he’s posted two shutouts along with a goals-against-average of 1.70 and save percentage of .949.  The Rangers continue to have a stronghold on the Midwest Division lead with a 37-15-2-0 record before weekend dates with London on Friday, Kingston on Sunday, and Ottawa on Monday.

Culina is a 20-year-old native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., now playing in his third OHL season.  He began his time in the league with the Windsor Spitfires joining the club as a free agent in 2015 and helping the club to a Mastercard Memorial Cup title in 2017.  He began this season in U Sports with the Ryerson Rams before joining the Sudbury Wolves in November.  He was acquired by the Rangers through a trade in January.

The goaltender chats with Doyle about the various paths he’s taken this season before settling in for a playoff run with the Rangers.  He talks about the league’s scholarship program, the comfort of having an education package to help finance post-secondary school, and his goals for the remainder of the season. He also talks about winning a championship with Windsor and adjusting to life in Kitchener with some of his old Spitfires teammates.
