OHL News – Radio Edition with host Terry Doyle and presented by Bauer continues for the 2017-18 regular season bringing fans insight from feature guests as well as news and notes from around the league each and every week over the airwaves.
This week’s segment features Aaron Luchuk of the Barrie Colts who was named OHL Player of the Month for February after leading the league with 26 points including six goals and 20 assists in 12 games played. He enters the weekend tied for second in OHL scoring with 99 points as the Colts hold top spot in the Central Division standings with a 36-21-2-1 record.
A 20-year-old native of Kingston, Ont., Luchuk has a league-leading 43 goals to go along with his 56 assists in 60 games and is approaching the century mark in points for the first time in his OHL career. Originally a fourth round pick by the Windsor Spitfires in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection, Luchuk helped the Spits capture the 2017 Mastercard Memorial Cup title on home ice scoring the game-winner in May’s finale. He joined the Colts in late December and in a matter of days signed an entry-level contract with the Ottawa Senators.
Luchuk chats with Doyle about his adjustment to Barrie, playing for coach Dale Hawerchuk, and the success the Colts have had so far this season as they eye a lengthy playoff run. He also talks about his emotional return to Windsor, this time as a member of the visiting Colts, where he scored the overtime winner in dramatic fashion.
