Ontario wins big over Slovakia at 2013 WU17

Team Ontario rebounded Sunday after a tough 6-5 shootout loss to the United States and beat Slovakia 12-0 Sunday night to earn their first victory of the 2013 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

Connor McDavid (Erie Otters) scored a hat trick to lead the way offensively as Ontario, while Robby Fabbri (Guelph Storm) and Sam Bennett (Kingston Frontenacs) also had multiple-goal games for Ontario.

Dante Salituro (Ottawa 67’s), Spencer Watson (Kingston Frontenacs), Josh Ho-Sang (Windsor Spitfires), Jaden Lindo (Owen Sound Attack) and Brett Hargrave (Sarnia Sting) scored the other Ontario goals.

Salituro and Bennett gave Ontario a 2-0 lead after one period before the Canadian side erupted for six goals in the second, three off the stick of McDavid.

Bennett added an assist for a three-point night, Ho-Sang, Hargrave and Watson finished with a goal and a helper each and captain Aaron Ekblad (Barrie Colts) and Daniel De Sousa (Belleville Bulls) chipped in with two assists apiece.

Guelph Storm prospect Matthew Mancina stopped all 23 shots he faced for the shutout.

Ontario is off Monday and returns to action on Tuesday afternoon in Drummondville where they will face Team Atlantic.
