Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that forward Greg McKegg of the Erie Otters is the OHL Player of the Week with seven points in three games for the week ending October 3.  McKegg scored three times and added four assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-2.

McKegg became just the fifth player in Otters history to score shorthanded twice in one game, accomplishing the feat Saturday night in a 5-2 win over the London Knights.  His first tally held as the game-winner at 8:04 of the second period, while the second goal was an empty-netter at 18:52 of the third.  He added an assist for a three-point game as first star of the contest.  McKegg also recorded back-to-back two-point games scoring a goal and an assist Thursday despite a 5-4 loss to the Niagara IceDogs, and then recorded two assists on Friday night in a 7-3 loss to the Kitchener Rangers.

McKegg, an 18-year-old from St. Thomas, ON, was named Captain of the Otters this season and was selected in the third round, 62nd overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.  Last season McKegg finished 11th in league scoring with 85 points in 67 games.  

Tyler Peters of the Sarnia Sting and Ryan Murphy of the Kitchener Rangers were also considered for the award this week.  Peters had six points in two games scoring three goals and three assists, while Murphy recorded a five-point game with a goal and four assists as first star of a 7-3 win over the Otters on Friday.  In goal, Scott Stajcer of the Owen Sound Attack won two games including a shutout victory posting a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .972.
