OHL PRE-SEASON SHOWCASE (HARBORCENTER – BUFFALO, NY)

FLINT 5, HAMILTON 2
Connor Roberts netted a hat-trick and added an assist as the Flint Firebirds skated to a 5-2 win over the defending OHL champion Hamilton Bulldogs at Harborcenter. C.J. Clarke scored a pair of goals and recorded an assist of his own while Emanuel Vella made 20 saves to earn the win in his first game as a Firebird. Bulldogs first round pick Logan Morrison found the back of the net in the loss while Dylan D’Agostino provided Hamilton’s other goal. Flint outshot Hamilton 26-22.

WINDSOR 5, ERIE 4
Dallas Stars prospect Curtis Douglas scored twice and Chris Playfair scored the eventual game winner as the Windsor Spitfires outlasted the Erie Otters 5-4. Daniel D’Amico and William Sirman also tallied for Windsor while rookie goaltender Kari Piiroinen made 18 saves in the victory. Mathew MacDougall picked up a pair of assists as the Spits outshot the Otters 27-22. Newcomers Marcus Gillard and Petr Cajka picked up goals for Erie while Chad Yetman and Hayden Fowler also found the back of the net.

KITCHENER RANGERS PRE-SEASON SHOWCASE (THE AUD – KITCHENER, ON)

SAGINAW 3, NORTH BAY 0
Cameron Lamour was perfect in the Spirit crease while New York Islanders prospect Bode Wilde stepped up for his first goal in a Saginaw uniform. DJ Busdeker and Brady Gilmour also capitalized as the Spirit blanked the North Bay Battalion 3-0. Rookie netminder Joe Vrbetic turned in his first game in a Battalion uniform.

KITCHENER 4, MONCTON 0
Jonathan Yantsis earned first star honours with a goal and an assist as the Kitchener Rangers blanked the QMJHL’s Moncton Wildcats 4-0 on home ice. Lucas Pfeil and Luke Richardson combined for a 32-save shutout while Eric Guest, Riley Damiani and rookie forward Isaac Langdon also lit the lamp for the Rangers.

OTHER OHL PRE-SEASON ACTION:

OSHAWA 4, MISSISSAUGA 1
The Oshawa Generals climbed out to a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes before holding on to defeat the Mississauga Steelheads 4-1 on the road. Eric Henderson, Kyle MacLean, Mitchell Hewitson and Allan McShane provided goals while Boston Bruins prospect Kyle Keyser stopped 27 of 28. Blueliner Ryan Barbosa scored the lone goal for the Steelheads while rookie Joe Ranger made 24 saves in goal.

BARRIE 1, NIAGARA 0 (IN THOROLD)
The Barrie Colts and Niagara IceDogs played to a low-scoring Central Division contest as Barrie snuck out a 1-0 victory. Aidan Brown’s goal 52 seconds into the first period would be all the Colts needed to claim victory as Jet Greaves turned in a 24-save shutout performance. Jukka Schotter and Tucker Tynan combined to stop 25 of 26 in the Niagara crease.

OTTAWA 3, SUDBURY 1
Defenceman Carter Robertson scored the game winner 2:03 into the third period as the Ottawa 67’s took a 3-1 road win over the Sudbury Wolves. Quinn Yule and Merrick Rippon also scored for the Barberpoles while Cedrick Andree stopped 38 shots. Sudbury outshot Ottawa 39-24 as the Wolves were held to 1-for-8 on the power play. Veteran forward Macauley Carson provided Sudbury’s lone goal in the loss while Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Jake McGrath combined for 21 saves in goal. First overall pick Quinton Byfield had one shot on goal in his first OHL exhibition game.

LONDON 4, SARNIA 1
Edmonton Oilers first round pick Evan Bouchard earned first star honours with a goal and two assists as the London Knights defeated visiting Sarnia 4-1. Billy Moskal, Connor McMichael and Richard Whittaker all scored for the Knights while Joseph Raaymakers stopped 26 shots. Ryan McGregor provided Sarnia’s lone marker while Blair Coffin and Ethan Langevin combined for 28 saves in the Sarnia crease.
