St. Louis Blues prospect Alexey Toropchenko netted the shootout winner as the Guelph Storm edged the Mississauga Steelheads 4-3 on home ice. Overage captain Garrett McFadden and Detroit Red Wings prospect Givani Smith each had a goal and an assist while Isaac Ratcliffe also scored for the Storm. Anthony Popovich made 28 saves in goal before turning away all four shootout opponents he faced. Shaw Boomhower scored twice for Mississauga before Florida Panthers first round pick Owen Tippett tied the score at three with just three seconds to go in the third period. Newly acquired netminder Emanuel Vella made 38 saves in the loss for the Steelheads.
OWEN SOUND 5, BARRIE 3
The Owen Sound Attack mounted a big comeback with four goals in the third period to defeat the Barrie Colts 5-3 on the road. Nick Pryce scored the game winner with 3:08 remaining in the third before putting home an empty netter as the Attack overcame a 3-1 deficit in the final half of the frame. Matthew Struthers, Sean Durzi and Chase Campbell also had Owen Sound goals while rookie netminder Mack Guzda made 29 saves. Kyle Heitzner, Andrei Svechnikov and Joey Keane lit the lamp for Barrie while David Ovsjannikov took the loss with a 30-save outing. Owen Sound’s Ethan Szypula finished the game with three assists while Durzi had a goal and two helpers to his credit.
