PETERBOROUGH 5, OSHAWA 3
East Division rivals went toe-to-toe in Bowmanville, Ont. as the Peterborough Petes prevailed over the Oshawa Generals 5-3 to close out the 2017 OHL Pre-Season schedule. The Petes broke open a tie game with 6:27 remaining as free agent signing John Parker-Jones scored the game winner with an assist from Adam Timleck. Matthew Timms would tack on an empty netter to make the final score 5-3 as the Petes also had goals from Nick Robertson, Pavel Gogolev and Cameron Supryka. Parker-Jones finished the game with a goal and two assists while netminder Blake Curran made 31 saves. The Generals had a pair of goals from free agent signing Cole Resnick while Mason Kohn also lit the lamp. The two clubs engaged in a chippy affair, combining for 14 third period penalties. The Petes finish the pre-season with a 2-3-1 record while Oshawa closes out the schedule at 1-2-1.
BARRIE 6, HAMILTON 3
2018 NHL Draft prospect Andrei Svechnikov dazzled with two goals and an assist as the Barrie Colts defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs 6-3 at Valley Park Arena in Stoney Creek, Ont. Veteran forward Lucas Chiodo recorded a goal and two assists to finish tied for the OHL pre-season scoring lead with nine points (4-5–9). Kirill Nizhnikov, Jason Willms and Justin Murray also had a goal and an assist each as the Colts went 4-for-11 on the man advantage. Overage goaltender Leo Lazarev made 32 saves in the win, surrendering Hamilton goals by Arthur Kaliyev, Will Bitten and Jack Hanley. Barrie finishes the exhibition schedule with a record of 3-2-1 while Hamilton went 3-1-0.
SUDBURY 8, SAULT STE. MARIE 4
Former first overall OHL Priority Selection choice David Levin turned heads with two goals and three assists to lead the Sudbury Wolves to an 8-4 win in Sault Ste. Marie. Sudbury led 4-1 after one period as Macauley Carson, Kyle Rhodes, Levin and Drake Pilon found the scoresheet. Dawson Baker, Owen Lane and Ryan Valentini would also score before Levin picked up his second of the afternoon. The Wolves scored eight times on 32 shots, going 2-for-5 on the power play while Sault Ste. Marie went 4-for-8. Zack Trott and Barrett Hayton both scored for the Hounds while Philadelphia Flyers first round pick Morgan Frost tallied twice. The Wolves wrap up the pre-season with a 2-1-1 record while the Greyhounds finish at 1-3-0.
OWEN SOUND 6, NORTH BAY 5
Philadelphia Flyers prospect Maksim Sushko knotted the score at five with 8:09 remaining before rookie defenceman Igor Chibrikov scored the game winner with 1:11 left on the clock to give the Owen Sound Attack a 6-5 win in North Bay. Veterans Sean Durzi and Ethan Szypula had big performances once again, each registering a goal and two assists to help the Bears finish the exhibition schedule with an undefeated 5-0-0 record. Matthew Struthers and Alan Lyszczarczyk also scored for Owen Sound. Lyszczarczyk finished tied for the OHL pre-season lead in scoring with nine points (4-5–9). Offseason Battalion acquisition Luke Burghardt led the way with two goals and an assist for North Bay while Daniel Walker, Payton Vescio and Adam Thilander also scored. The Attack took the shooting column 40-25. North Bay finishes the pre-season with a record of 3-2-1. They were one of just three OHL teams to play six exhibition games.
