The fifth annual edition of the Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour gets underway in Kitchener this weekend as hosts Ron MacLean and Tara Slone got things started with the ceremonial faceoff prior to the Rangers’ Friday night home game against the Saginaw Spirit.

After Kitchener’s 50th Oktoberfest celebration got underway with the tapping of the keg on Friday afternoon, the Rangers got in the festive spirit with specially-themed Oktoberfest jerseys for their Friday night tilt, threads that will be auctioned off post-game with proceeds going to the Food Bank of Waterloo Region.

The first of 25 stops on the cross country tour, the launch of Kitchener’s instalment on Friday featured a @hometownhockey_ Twitter takeover by Winnipeg Jets star, Barrie Colts graduate and local product Mark Scheifele. Other storylines throughout the weekend will include former Rangers blueliner Ben Fanelli, OHL officiating graduate and NHL referee Garrett Rank and a visit from ex-Ranger and long-time NHL blueliner Scott Stevens.

The weekend culminates in a Sunday night matchup between the Toronto Maple Leafs and host Chicago Blackhawks on Sportsnet at 7:00pm ET.
