Saturday Highlights: Bears bring the offence

 

OWEN SOUND 9 – WINDSOR 2
The Owen Sound Attack exploded for nine goals on Saturday as Jonah Gadjovich (4, 5), Aidan Dudas (1, 2) and Alan Lyszczarczyk (2, 3) all had multi-goal outings. The 9-2 win over the visiting Windsor Spitfires also featured Vegas Golden Knights prospect Nick Suzuki (4) recording a goal and three assists while Markus Phillips (2) and Matthew Struthers (4) also found the back of the net. The Attack outshot the Spitfires 42-15 and went 3-for-4 on the power play. The Spits were playing the third game of a three-in-three set and had goals from Cole Purboo (2) and William Sirman (1). The Attack remain undefeated in regulation with a 3-0-0-2 record while Windsor falls to 4-2-1-0.

NIAGARA 3 – HAMILTON 2 – SO
2018 NHL Draft prospect Akil Thomas netted the shootout winner as the Niagara IceDogs skated out of Hamilton with¬†a 3-2 victory. Down 2-0 after a pair of Brandon Saigeon (1, 2) goals, Ben Jones (5) and Drew Hunter (1) would score to knot the tie at two before Stephen Dhillon provided some key saves late to send the game to overtime. Dhillon turned away all three Hamilton shooters he faced in the shootout to help the IceDogs claim another hard-fought road win. Hamilton’s Nick Donofrio made his OHL debut with a 23-save performance. The Bulldogs are now 2-1-0-2 through their first five games while Niagara holds a 5-2-0-0 record.

GUELPH 5 – KITCHENER 2
Arizona Coyotes prospect Nate Schnarr (1, 2) scored twice in the opening shifts of the game, pacing the Guelph Storm to a 5-2 victory over their visiting Midwest Division rivals the Kitchener Rangers. James McEwan (1) also scored his first of the campaign after being returned from the AHL’s Laval Rocket to start the weekend. Cedric Ralph (2) and Cam Hillis (1) also scored for the Storm while Anthony Popovich made 29 saves in goal. Ryan Merkley and Zach Poirier both had two assists as the Storm improved to 3-2-0-1. Slovakian forward Adam Liska (2) was a bright spot for the Rangers with a goal and an assist while Winnipeg Jets prospect Logan Stanley (3) also found the back of the net.

ERIE 5 – LONDON 2
Gera Poddubnyi (3, 4) scored twice while Ivan Lodnia (2) and Kyle Maksimovich (4) each had a goal and an assist as the Erie Otters defeated the visiting London Knights 5-2. Carson Edwardson chipped in with a pair of assists and Detroit Red Wings prospect Jordan Sambrook (2) also scored as the Otters won handily, outshooting the Knights 35-21. Sam Miletic (1) and Liam Foudy (1) had goals for London while Jordan Kooy made 30 saves in goal as the Knights suffered their fifth straight loss. The Otters improve to 2-4-1-0 on the season.

BARRIE 6 – SAGINAW 2
Andrei Svechnikov (7, 8) scored twice in the first period to give the Barrie Colts a running start and they never looked back, taking a 6-2 road win in Saginaw. Veteran forward Lucas Chiodo racked up four assists while Kirill Nizhnikov (1), Curtis Douglas (3), Zach Magwood (4) and Alexey Lipanov (4) all found the back of the net for the Colts. Lipanov finished the night with a goal and two assists as the Colts went 2-for-5 on the power play and improved to 5-2-0-1 on the season. Barrie netminder Christian Propp made 32 saves to record the win, surrendering Saginaw power play goals from Marcus Crawford (2) and Matthew Kreis (1). The Spirit are now 1-3-1-0 to start the season.
