(Windsor, ON) – Windsor Spitfires general manager Warren Rychel announced Tuesday that Director of Analytics Evan Mathias has signed a two-year contract extension with the club.

The 23-year-old Windsor native, who will also take on a new role as the club’s video coach, spent the last two seasons working under former head coach Rocky Thompson.

Mathias rounds out a staff that now features head coach Trevor Letowski, assistant coach Jerrod Smith and skills coach Tyler Roeszler.

“I’m very excited to stay here in Windsor and be part of a world class organization,” Mathias said. “For me, growing up in Windsor and now being able to continue my work with the Spitfires is a great opportunity. We’ve built a great working environment and I look forward to getting back to it next month with Trevor, Jerrod and Tyler.”

Mathias takes over the role of video coach, inheriting the position from Sean DeMuynck who is pursuing new career opportunities after four seasons with the franchise.

“We thank Sean for all his hard work over the last few years,” said Rychel. “It’s not easy balancing road trips, a career and all that comes with both.”

Rychel says Mathias fits well with what the new-look coaching staff.

“Evan works hard and his attention to detail is outstanding,” Rychel said. “We’re happy to have him back among a talented group that’s accountable to each other and that enjoys working together.”
