Steelheads Announce Changes to Hockey Operations

Mississauga Steelheads

Mississauga, ON – The Mississauga Steelheads announced today changes to their hockey operations staff.

“Building on our great success this past season, we are excited to announce that James Richmond will lead our Steelheads organization going forward as both Head Coach and General Manager,” said Steelheads’ Owner and President, Elliott Kerr. “We have made a five-year commitment to James as he continues to develop outstanding young men contributing to their community while at the same time developing them as hockey players. We will be announcing James’ management team in the next few days.”

Richmond, who joined the Steelheads prior to the start of the 2015-16 season as an assistant coach, became the second Head Coach in franchise history, leading the Steelheads to their first Central Division and Eastern Conference titles this season. The Mississauga, Ontario native has vast experience coaching at all levels. Before joining the Steelheads, Richmond was the Head Coach and General Manager for the Aurora Tigers of Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL), and was also a member of the player development staff for the Los Angeles Kings.

“My family and myself are truly honoured at the opportunity Mr. Kerr has given us. We would like to thank James Boyd and Jan Egert for the foundation they have built in the Mississauga Steelheads organization and we look forward to continuing the success we have built this past season,” said James Richmond. “Our staff is very excited about the opportunity of working together and leading the Steelheads into the future and being a part of watching our young men reach their dreams. Again, thank you to all our supporters and Steelheads family. I look forward to some great years in Mississauga.”

The Steelheads would like to thank James Boyd for his many years of service and dedication to OHL hockey in Mississauga, and for his role in putting together our Eastern Conference Champion team. We also wish Jan Egert continued success as one of the impressive young executives in the sport of hockey.
