SARNIA, ON – The Sarnia Sting are very excited to welcome Mark Packwood to the organization as the team’s new Athletic Therapist. Mark graduated from Brock University in 2012 with an honours bachelor degree in Kinesiology and finished his Master’s in Physiotherapy from Western University in 2014. Upon graduation Mark began working at the prestigious Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic while completing his sport designation through the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (Sport Division) and spent time working as an assistant with the London Knights (OHL). Mark has worked with Hockey Canada on the Women’s and Men’s side and has recently been named lead therapist for Team White at this year’s U17 tournament.
Mark is also a former goaltender in the Ontario Hockey League, where he played for the Kitchener Rangers and the Oshawa Generals between 2004 and 2008. He is currently completing a second Master’s in Clinical Science (Manipulative Therapy) at Western University.
General Manager, Nick Sinclair remarks “Mark is going to be a welcome addition to our hockey club and staff. His pedigree speaks for itself. His ability to relate with players, his educational and work experience, and passion for the game were very evident in the evaluation process. Mark is going to be an excellent fit within our group and we would officially like to welcome him and his family to the organization.”
To fill the role of Equipment Manager, the Sting have hired Spencer Stehouwer. Spencer’s experience includes serving as the Assistant Equipment Manager with Western University’s Men’s Hockey team and the Head Equipment Manager for the GOJHL’s London Nationals.
Sinclair comments, “We are happy to have Spencer join our staff. He’s a knowledgeable young man with a great work ethic and passion for what he does. We believe that he will be a great asset to our team moving forward.”
The organization would like to wish former Athletic Therapist, Chad Oliver, and former Equipment Manager, Lester Tiu the best of luck as they have chosen to pursue other opportunities and further their professional careers. We thank them for their hard work and dedication in recent years.
