Three Stars: September 19, 2018
The kids got it done for the Saginaw Spirit on Opening Night in the OHL as they defeated the defending Western Conference champion Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds 5-2 on home ice.
1ST STAR: COLE PERFETTI (SAGINAW SPIRIT):
The fifth overall pick of the 2018 OHL Priority Selection, Cole Perfetti got his career started off with a bang, scoring the first goal of the 2018-19 CHL campaign 10:56 into the first period with an assist from DJ Busdeker. Perfetti’s first of his OHL career was followed up by a second at 11:29 of the second, cleaning up a loose puck on the power play to give Saginaw a 2-1 edge. Perfetti tallied six shots on goal in his OHL debut, a performance worthy of first star recognition.
2ND STAR: MASON MILLMAN (SAGINAW SPIRIT):
Rookie blueliner Mason Millman also scored for the first time in his OHL career and earns second star honours for Wednesday. Millman scored on a power play shot through traffic with just eight seconds to go in the second period, putting Saginaw ahead 3-1. The former seventh round pick played in six games with the Spirit last season while spending the rest of the campaign with the St. Thomas Stars Jr. B club.
3RD STAR: CAMERON LAMOUR (SAGINAW SPIRIT)
Eighteen-year-old goaltender Cameron Lamour turned in a solid performance on Wednesday, stopping 23 of the 25 shots that came his way to earn third star recognition. The Naughton, Ont. native has played parts of two seasons in Saginaw, getting into 17 games with the Spirit last season. He’s one of three netminders on the Spirit roster alongside Arizona Coyotes prospect Ivan Prosvetov and 2018 second round pick Tristan Lennox. Lamour did his job on Opening Night, paving the way for more starts in the future.
