Tuesday Highlights: Parsons powers Knights past Otters
LONDON 3 – ERIE 2
After four consecutive losses to Erie, the London Knights finally got back at the Otters on Tuesday as Calgary Flames prospect Tyler Parsons made 41 saves and Sam Miletic (35, 36) scored twice in a 3-2 road victory. Carolina Hurricanes draftee Janne Kuokkanen (25) also found the back of the net as the Knights improved to 44-14-3-4 with their seventh win in the past 10 games. Veteran captain JJ Piccinich tallied a pair of assists as the Knights prevailed despite being outshot 43-22. Alex DeBrincat (63) stretched his current point streak to 25 games with a goal while Anthony Cirelli (24) also lit the lamp. The Otters continue to hold a three-point lead over Sault Ste. Marie and Owen Sound for the Western Conference lead. The Knights continue to trail Owen Sound by one point in the Midwest Division.
KITCHENER 6 – GUELPH 5 – OT
The Kitchener Rangers got quite the scare on Tuesday, jumping out to a 4-0 lead before a hungry Guelph Storm squad roared back to climb ahead 5-4 late in the third. The Blueshirts rallied back though as Philadelphia Flyers prospect Connor Bunnaman (35) knotted the score at five with 1:34 remaining before Nick McHugh (13) scored 1:39 into overtime for a 6-5 road win. The Storm outshot the Rangers 37-28 to earn a point in the overtime loss as 2017 NHL Draft prospect Isaac Ratcliffe (25, 26) earned first star honours with two goals and an assist. Matt Hotchkiss (13), Cedric Ralph (8) and Ryan Merkley (11) also scored for the Storm. Adam Mascherin (35), Darby Llewellyn (23), Jonathan Yantsis (3) and Cole Carter (14) pitched in with additional goals for the Rangers. Kitchener is now locked into sixth place in the Western Conference with two games remaining on their schedule.
OWEN SOUND 6 – FLINT 4
The Owen Sound Attack tied a franchise record with their 46th win of the season as Nick Suzuki (43) and Petrus Palmu (38) each had a goal and an assist in a 6-4 win over the visiting Flint Firebirds. Sean Durzi (2), Cordell James (32), Maksim Sushko (17) and Jonah Gadjovich (42) all had Owen Sound markers as the Attack won their fifth straight game. Veteran forward Ethan Szypula collected three assists in the win while Michael McNiven made 27 saves. Nicholas Caamano (35), Hakon Nilsen (3), Jake Durham (10) and C.J. Clarke (9) had goals for Flint as the Firebirds suffered their fifth straight loss. Owen Sound sits three points back of first place Erie in the Midwest Division with three games remaining.
