Ty Collins commits to Storm
Guelph, ON – General Manager and Head Coach George Burnett announced Monday that Ty Collins has committed to an Ontario Hockey League Standard Player Agreement with the Storm.
Collins, a 6-foot-1, 165lb. right-winger from Newmarket was the Storm’s second round pick (38th overall) in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection.
“We are excited that Ty and his family have committed to the Storm,” said Burnett. “Ty has an impressive skill set, with a heavy shot and a quick release. His offensive awareness and intelligence have allowed him to emerge as one of the top goal scorers in his age group.”
“We look forward to working closely with Ty to help him fulfill his potential.”
Collins posted 31 goals in 31 regular season games for the York-Simcoe Express, finishing third in scoring in the OMHA-ETA with 68 points. During the post-season, Collins tallied five points in six games (four goals, one assist) as the Express defeated the Richmond Hill Coyotes and the Peterborough Minor Petes on the way to the OMHA Championship Tournament. Collins played an integral role as the Express captured the OMHA Championship title on home ice.
At the season-ending OHL Cup Tournament, Collins scored six points in six games (four goals, two assists) as the Express advanced to the tournament semi-finals.
“I’m so excited to officially be part of the Guelph Storm organization,” said Collins. “I want to thank everyone that has helped me over the years and also the Storm for selecting me and giving me a chance to be a part of the team’s future.”
“Players from last year’s team texted or called me when I was selected, and everyone has made me feel so welcome already. There is lots of work to do this summer to prepare, but I am excited to meet my new teammates and to get things going.”
In April, Collins represented the OMHA at the 2018 OHL Gold Cup in Kitchener. He tallied five points (two goals, three assists) in four games at the tournament, as his ‘OMHA Black’ team finished in third place.
Last week, Collins was named one of 54 OHL Prospects named to Hockey Canada’s National Under-17 Development Camp, which takes place July 21-27 in Calgary. Also named to the camp are Ty’s fellow Storm prospects Zack Terry and Spencer Smith.
In addition to the Hockey Canada development camp, Collins will spend the rest of the off-season preparing for Storm Training Camp, which begins in late August. Details regarding training camp will be made available later this summer.
