Wednesday Highlights: Roth’s five points pace Greyhounds


Ryan Roth (8, 9, 10) enjoyed a career night with a hat-trick and five points, leading the Soo Greyhounds past visiting Flint 7-2. Tied 2-2 approaching the midway point of the second period, overage defenceman Jordan Sambrook (9) scored the go-ahead goal as the Hounds netted five unanswered to earn their third straight win. OHL scoring leader Morgan Frost (20), Mac Hollowell (10) and Jacob LeGuerrier (1) joined in offensively as Roth potted his first career hat-trick. While Sambrook finished with a goal and two helpers, Keeghan Howdeshell continued a nine-game point streak with three assists. The Greyhounds outshot the Firebirds 44-21, going 3-for-6 on the power play. Flint’s Jake Durham (19) and Eric Uba (12) found the back of the net while Emanuel Vella made 37 saves in the loss. Hounds netminder Matthew Villalta made 19 saves in the win. Sault Ste. Marie leads the West Division with an 18-7-4-1 record. Flint falls to 3-25-2-0 following a fifth straight loss.
