Wednesday Highlights: Willms with the winner as Colts take Game 1

BARRIE 6 – KINGSTON 5 – OT
(BAR leads series 1-0)

Jason Willms (2, 3) sent a puck on goal from a low percentage angle, beating Kingston’s Jeremy Helvig inside the near post to give the Barrie Colts a 6-5 overtime win in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference semi-final series. The back-and-forth game saw the two clubs exchange leads before Kingston’s Jason Robertson (5) tied the score at five midway through the third period on a nice pass from Gabriel Vilardi. Willms’ second of the night cameĀ on an assist from Ben Hawerchuk just 1:58 into the extra frame. Dmitry Sokolov (6), Ryan Suzuki (1) and Aaron Luchuk (4) each had a goal and an assist for Barrie while Jaden Peca (2) also lit the lamp. Linus Nyman (4), Justin Pringle (1), Matt Hotchkiss (1) and Jakob Brahaney (1) joined Robertson in the goal-scoring department for the Frontenacs. The Colts outshot the Fronts 45-28 while Kingston went 2-for-2 on the power play and Barrie went 1-for-2. Game 2 of the series goes Friday night back in Barrie.
