World Junior hopefuls defeat Denmark in Selection Camp finale

St. Catharines, ON – Thirteen players recorded at least a point as Canadian National Junior Team hopefuls defeated Denmark 5-2 to close out Selection Camp on Friday.

Canada goals came from Boris Katchouk (Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds), Brett Howden (Moose Jaw Warriors), Alex Formenton (London Knights), Tyler Steenbergen (Swift Current Broncos) and Jordan Kyrou (Sarnia Sting) as they outshot the Danes 52-14, going 2-for-6 on the power play.

Goaltender Michael DiPietro (Windsor Spitfires) stopped eight of the nine shots he faced in the win.

Joachim Blichfeld (Portland Winterhawks) provided one of Denmark’s two goals in the loss.

Following a pair of pre-tournament games in London, Ont. (Dec. 20) and Hamilton, Ont. (Dec. 22), Canada opens the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship on Boxing Day when it takes on Finland in Buffalo, N.Y.
