Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that forward Cody Hodgson of the Brampton Battalion is the Boston Pizza OHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 9. Hodgson scored five goals and four assists for nine points with a plus-minus rating of plus-6 in three games played.
Hodgson led the Battalion to a 3-0-0-0 record this week increasing their winning streak to 11 games. On Thursday night he scored four goals including the game winning goal and added an assist in an 8-4 victory at home over the Plymouth Whalers earning first star of the game honours. Hodgson would score the game winner again Friday night when he opened the scoring late in the first period and would add two assists in the 4-0 road win over the Sudbury Wolves. Hodgson was named the game’s second star. Hodgson would contribute a single assist for the Battalion Sunday in a 7-1 win over the Belleville Bulls.
Hodgson, an 18-year-old from Markham, ON was selected in the first round, tenth overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He is in his third season with the Battalion and has 12 goals and 10 assists for 22 points in 12 games played. Last season Hodgson recorded 40 goals and 45 assists for 85 points in 68 games. Hodgson has been named to the roster for Team OHL and will compete in the 2008 ADT Canada Russia Challenge November 20 in Guelph, ON and November 24 in St. Catharines, ON.
Honourable mention this week goes to a pair of Peterborough Petes, Pat Daley and rookie Ryan Spooner. Daley had a six point night in a 10-2 win over the Oshawa Generals scoring two goals and four assists and would finish the week with eight points. That same game Spooner had a goal and five assists and would finish the week with seven points. Between the pipes this week, Jaroslav Janus of the Erie Otters went 3-0-0-0 including a 3-0 shutout win over the Barrie Colts.
