The Guelph Storm Hockey Club recently announced that forwards Zach Mitchell and defenceman Julian Ciocco have signed Ontario Hockey League contracts with the team.
Selected by the Storm with their third pick in the 2009 OHL Priority Selection, Mitchell was taken in the 4th round, 71st overall. Last season Mitchell played for the Toronto Marlboros collecting 90 points, 42 goals and 48 assists, in 77 games. The dynamic winger racked up 9 points in 7 OHL Cup games to help his Toronto Marlboros capture the championship.
Mitchell, 5.11, 155 lbs, was a Harvard University 2011 recruit that was ranked as a first round pick by most scouting services. The Caledon native would have been a new junior at the Westminster Prep School this fall, but with his signing with the Storm has now withdrawn his commitments to both schools.
Brooks described Mitchell as being "an offensively gifted passer and scorer, but also responsible in his own end."
Ciocco, a 5.11, 190 lbs defenseman was chosen with the 53rd overall selection. Last season the Acto New Jersey native played for Cushing Academy Prep school racking up 12 points, including 2 goals and 10 assists in 31 games.
Guelph Storm Head Coach Jason Brooks has described Julian as a "physical defenseman that takes the body and plays a simple, but effective game."
Ciocco was in attendance at the Storm's annual Prospect Day held in May at the University of Guelph.
