Central Ontario Wolves 7, Rochester Americans 3

Central Ontario came out of the gate strong, in the first game on day two of the Ontario Hockey League Showcase Tournament. The Wolves lit the lamp three times in the first period on goals by Dylan McMahon, Matthew Duchene and Jesse Sales. Rochester got on the board at 6:14 of the second with a goal by Joe Zarbo but McMahon answered back with his second of the game at 9:19. Zarbo pulled the Americans within one with his second of the game at 12:37 on the power play. Central came out in the third and added to their lead with a goal from Jesse Stoughton. Connor Stokes pulled Rochester within one at 9:12 of the third but Matthew Duchene scored two goals to extend the lead once again and close out the game.

Whitby Wildcats 3, TPH Thunder 2

In a hard fought contest the two sides remained scoreless until 3:59 of the second period when Brett Mackie scored on assists from Ryan Martindale and Robert Comeau. Logan Romano scored for the American squad just over a minute later to tie the game on a pass from Tyler Winn. Late in the third period Josh Shalla and Martindale scored 21 seconds apart to put the Wildcats up by two goals. Drew Slanton responded for the Thunder at 12:43 of the third but they were unable to score the equalizer.

Toronto Marlboros 6, Thunder Bay Kings 3

The Marlies emerged victorious this morning in a penalty filled affair. Ethan Werek led the way for Toronto with a power play goal and an empty net marker to go along with two assists. Marc Anthony Zanetti had a goal and an assist while Daniel Hnatko had two goals for the Marlies. Kyle Lapenski, Mackus Perrier and Graeme McCormack scored for the Northern squad while Michael McDonald and Luke Judson each had two assists.


Game Summary



Barrie Colts 4, London Knights 2

The Knights got off to a great start to the game as they were 2-0 by just past the 5:00 mark of the first period on goals Dean Zapishny and Josh Sidwell. Taylor Hayman assisted on both London goals. The Colts, however, bounced back from the early deficit with four unanswered goals to record the 4-2 victory. Tyler Agostini led the scoring for the Colts with two goals while Garrett Wilson and Robert Visca each had a goal and an assist in the game. Wilson scored the game winner on the power play late in the second period.

Waterloo Wolves 7, Toronto Young Nats 4

Waterloo opened the scoring in the first period with Michael Halmo scoring his first of three at 7:22. In the second period, the Nat's answered back with Reilly Smith scoring his first of three on the power play. Halmo scored his second of the game and Scott Nagy rounded out the scoring for Waterloo in the second period. Michael Latta scored his first of three for the Wolves to open the third period. The Nat's answered back with three power play goals from Brandon Pirri and Smith with his second and third to tie the game at four. The Nat's ran into penalty trouble which proved costly as the Wolves capitalized scoring two power play goals from Halmo and Latta. Latta added an insurance marker short handed into the empty net to give the Wolves the victory.


Game Summary



Brampton Battalion 3, Cambridge Hawks 2

Brampton opened the scoring twenty seconds into the game on a goal by Greg Phillips. Tyler Randell of Brampton scored the lone goal in the second period and Jordan Birch scored what proved to be the game winner at 4:20 of the third period on the power play. Cambridge got life late in the third on goals from Ryan Skanes and Matthew Paton but it wasn't enough as Brampton came away victorious winning the hard fought battle 3-2.

Mississauga Rebels 4, Toronto Jr. Canadians 3

The Jr. Canadians came out of the gate scoring three goals with Robert McEwan scoring in the first period and Kyle Merman and Justin Tedesco scoring in the second. The Rebels clawed back tying the game at three on a goal by Jon Skarsten and power play markers by Taylor Carnevale and David Beaumont. The contest needed overtime to decide the winner and with Mississauga wasting no time, Daniel Purcell scored twenty-seven seconds into the first overtime.

Mississauga IceDogs 6, Burlington Eagles 3

Mississauga opened the scoring in the first period on the power play with a goal by Andrew Agozzino. Burlington answered back on a goal by Patrick Stillar at 10:17. After that the IceDogs went on a scoring spree with a goal by Ben Chiarot, followed by a natural hat trick by Michael Santini. Burlington scored a power play goal late in the period by Jordan Szwarz to swing the momentum going into the third. The momentum was short lived as Santini scored his fourth goal of the game, short handed 1:50 into the third period. Greg Gibson rounded out the scoring for Burlington at 4:40 of the third period. Michael Fine had three assists in the game for the IceDogs.


Game Summary



Windsor Spitfires 4, TPH Thunder 4

The Spitfires jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, on goals from Daniel Lacoix and Matthew Beaudoin. The Thunder fought back and took the lead 3-2 mid way through the second period as Daniel Broussard, Tyler Hostetter and Andrew Yogan lit the lamp for the American Squad. Zack Kassian scored on the power play late in the second to even the score at 3-3. Andrew Yogan scored his second goal of the game and registered his fourth point of the contest at 5:34 of the third period to give the Thunder the lead once again. That lead held until 12:59 of the third when Kassian scored his second goal of the game for Windsor on a set up from Lacroix and Myles Doan, who also had two points in the contest. Overtime did not settle anything and the game ended in a draw.

Rochester Americans 5, Niagara Falls Thunder 2

Rochester came with a balanced attack against the Thunder with Phil Lane, Kevin Cole, Remy Cholhan, Connor Stokes and Kyle Quick all scoring single markers in the game. Joe Rogalski chipped in with a pair of assists for the victors. Johnson Andrews and Taylor Beck replied for Niagara Falls. Brandon Comm was solid in net for Rochester, picking up the victory.


Game Summary



London Knights 4, Gloucester Rangers 1

After Gloucester opened the scoring early in the second period on a power play goal by Brett Nooyen, it was all London. Dean Zapishny tied the game at 4:48 of the third period
And Colin Martin netted what would eventually prove to be the game winner on the power play at 7:15 of the final frame. Josh Sidwell and Tyler Kearns added insurance markers for London.

Whitby Wildcats 7, Thunder Bay Kings 3

Whitby opened up a 3-0 lead on the Kings by 13:06 of the first period and never looked back. The Wildcats attack was led by Ryan Matindale who had a pair of goals and an assist. Brett Mackie and Collin Burns also had solid games with a goal and an assist in the contest. Josh Shalla, Andreas Belmonte, and Daniel Pachis all added single goals in the contest. Sam Dubinski led the Kings attach with a goal and an assist while Luke Judson and Andrew Groom also scored for Thunder Bay.

Brampton Battalion 4, Greater Kingston Predators 3

The Predators got on the board in the first period with a goal by Jason Steels. Brampton answered with a goal when Joshua Ocampo tied the game on the power play. Brampton's Michael Licata scored in the second period and Kirk Evely added a goal in the third to make it 3-1. The Predators clawed back with Jordan Mayer scoring on a penalty shot and Richard Stethem tying the game 3-3. Brampton ended any hopes of a Predator comeback when Andy Bathgate scored the winner with under six minutes to play.

Toronto Young Nationals 5, Central Ontario Wolves 1

Toronto started with a goal by Tyler Seguin in the first period. Mitchell Lebar continued the scoring with a short handed goal in the second to extend the lead to 2-0. Toronto extended their lead to four in the third period with goals by Brandon Pirri and Tyler Seguin with his second of the game. Jesse Stoughton got the Wolves on the board with Matthew Duchene picking up an assist to extend his tournament leading point total to eight. Toronto rounded out the scoring with a goal by Jeff Skinner.


Game Summary



Burlington Eagles 4, Barrie Colts 2

Burlington opened the scoring on a goal by Patrick Stillar and Barrie tied the game with a goal by Mike Mullay to end the fist period tied. Greg Gibson scored to regain the lead for Burlington only to have Garrett Nikkanen tie the game back up at 2-2. Burlington would take the lead for good on goals by Robert Bentivegna and Patrick Stillar's second of the game to round out the scoring.


Game Summary



Cambridge Hawks 2, Toronto Jr. Canadians 1 OT

The Jr. Canadians got off to an early lead with a goal by Kyle Merman in the first period. John Kavanagh evened the scoring for Cambridge late in the third period on the power play. The teams would need overtime to decide the game with Taylor Doherty of Cambridge scoring the game winner with 1:01 left in the extra period.
