Toronto Marlboros 6, TPH Thunder 4
The Marlboros jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on goals by Richard Buehler and Daniel Hnatko. Hnatko turned in a strong performance during the contest as he also added two assists during the game. The Thunder, however, stormed back to take the league with thee goals late in the first period off of the sticks of Zach Sandonato, Andrew Yogan and Shane Halaas. From that point on though it was all Toronto as they scored four straight goals. Ethan Werek had two goals, including the game winner and added an assist while Michael Catenacci and Shane Kinsella rounded out the scoring for the Marlies. Fred Hamilton also added a pair of assists in the contest for the victors. Tyler Wynn added a late power play goal for the Thunder, but a two goal deficit was as close as they could come in the end.
Mississauga Rebels 7, Brampton Battalion 4
Ben Shumate had a hat trick, including the game winning goal and Taylor Carnevale had a pair of goals and an assist to lead the hometown Rebels over their Peel Region rivals the Battalion. David Beaumont and Josh Phillips added goals for Mississauga. Brampton got goals from Peter Holland, Tyler Randell, Joshua Ocampo and Sam Nyberg.
Both teams will advance to the quarter-finals later tonight.
London Knights 4, Mississauga IceDogs 3
London scored two goals late in the first period off of the sticks of Dimitris Korakianitis and Rob Flick. Mississauga answered at the 3:00 mark of the second period when Rob Fine found the back of the net. Anthony Donati restored the two goal cushion for the Knights on the power play at 9:54 of the second period. Late in the period Fine once again responded for the IceDogs scoring his second goal of the game. Stephen Gaskin put Mississauga up by two goals once again by notching a power play goal at 6:12 of the third period. The IceDogs continued to battle though and just over a minute and a half later Michael Santini scored his fourth goal of the tournament to bring his team within one. That would be as close as they would come, however as the Knights walked away with the 4-3 victory.
Waterloo Wolves 2, Rochester Americans 2
Prior to this contest Waterloo was assured of a spot in the quarter-finals but Rochester needed to manage at least a tie to advance and they battled as hard as they could to earn their spot in the playoff round. Michael Latta opened the scoring at 2:56 of the opening period scoring an unassisted goal. Joe Rogalski replied for Rochester on the power play only 37 seconds into the second period on a setup from Brant Sherwood and Kevin Cole. Michael Halmo scored his eighth goal of the tournament at 9:24 of the second period on a feed from Stefan Thompson to put the Wolves back on top. That lead stood up until Brett Barton scored an unassisted short handed goal at 9:41 of the third period. Overtime did not produce a winner and the two teams settled for a hard fought tie.
Barrie Colts 3, Gloucester Rangers 1
The end of the round robin schedule of games saw Barrie defeat the Ottawa area entry by a score of 3-1. Greg Cirilli got things started early for the Colts with a goal from Chris Beaucamp at 1:13 of the first period. Jordan Duckworth added to the lead for Barrie with a power play goal from Mike Mullay at 8:07 of the second. Erik Gudbranson put Gloucester on the board with a power play marker from Attila Simon and Dylan Anderson, late in the second period. Jake McLaughlin added an insurance marker for the Colts late in the third on a set up from Duckworth.
Toronto Marlboros 3, Brampton Battalion 2
The Marlboros struck first when Elijah Foy scored on the power play at 13:38 of the first period. The Marlboros extended the lead to two on a goal by Ethan Werek. Brampton got things going in the third period on a power play goal by Joshua Ocampo. The Marlboros would extend their two goal lead on Ethan Werek's second goal of the game which proved to be the winner. Joshua Ocampo of Brampton would get his second gaol to pull the Battalion within one but the Marlboros would hold on for the win and advance to Sunday's semi-final.
Whitby Wildcats 3, Mississauga Rebels 2 2 OT
The second quarter-final of the evening was a hard fought, tight defensive battle between the Champions of the OMHA and the GTHL. Daniel Purcell opened the scoring for the IceDogs at 14:44 of the first period from David Beamont. Mississauga extended their lead to 2-0 on the power play at 10:47 of the second period as Mark Bennet connected on a feed from Peter Hermenegildo. The Wildcats continued to fight and Ryan Martindale found the back of the net with 4:34 to go in the third period from Josh Shall and Brett Mackie, to bring Whitby with in one. Whitby's desperation in the dying seconds paid off Daniel Pachis found the back of the net with 0:35 left in the game to send it into overtime. One period of overtime wasn't enough to determine a victor but at 3:38 of the second overtime Pachis played the hero once again as he scored the sudden death winner on a pass from behind the net from Andreas Belmonte.
Mississauga IceDogs 3, Waterloo Wolves 2
In the third quarter-final, of the night, Waterloo got on the board first with a power play goal by Scott Nagy. The IceDogs Brett Appio tied the game at one with a power play goal of his own, early in the second period. At 3:52 of the second period, the Wolves would regain the lead on Nagy's second power play goal of the game. Less than two minutes later the IceDogs would tie the game on a short handed goal by Tyler Karius. Still in the second period, Andrew Aggozzino scored what proved to be the game winner, on a set up from Blake Barbieri, on the power play at 11:24 to advance the IceDogs to Sunday's semi-finals.
Rochester Americans 3, London Knights 0
The fourth quarter-final game saw Rochester open the scoring on a goal by Joe Rogalski from John Sucese, at 8:48 of the first period, which would stand as the eventual game winner. Rochester would score once more in the first period as Dave Shields lit the lamp on the power play from Brant Sherwood and Sucese. While the Knights continued to pressure they could not beat Rochester goalie Brandon Komm who picked up the win. Kevin Cole would add an insurance marker midway through the second period as Rochester advances to the semi-finals on Sunday.
