In London, Phil McRae scored two goals, including the game-winner early in the third period, to help the Knights to a 5-2 win over the Erie Otters in one of five playoff games on Friday. London leads the Western Conference playoff series 1-0.
Shawn Szydlowski scored nine seconds into the game to give the Otters and early lead and Greg McKegg also counted in the first period for Erie. McRae responded with his first of the game to tie the score midway through the first period and the Nazem Kadri knotted the game again early in the second. Phil Varone added a powerplay goal in the third period and John Tavares iced the win with an empty-netter in the last minute of the game.
Michael Del Zotto had three assists and Tavares had a pair of helpers in the win.
Trevor Cann made 45 saves in the win and Jaroslav Janus allowed four goals on 36 shots for Erie.
Windsor Spitfires 7, Owen Sound Attack 5
In Owen Sound, Taylor Hall and Ryan Ellis scored two goals each to help the Windsor Spitfires storm back from a three-goal deficit to win Game 2 of their series against the Attack 7-5. Windsor leads the series 2-0.
Milan Doczy, Joey Hishon and Mike Lomas staked Owen Sound to a three-goal lead a little more than five minutes into the game. Hishon added another goal on a powerplay in the final minute of the first period.
Justin Shugg responded for the Spitfires in the first period and then Dale Mitchell, cut the lead in half in the second. Ellis and Hall added powerplay goals late in the middle frame and then they both scored again in the first minute of the third. Rob Kwiet also scored and Andrei Loktionov added three assists in the win.
Garrett Wilson also scored and Andrew Wilson added two assists for Owen Sound.
Andrew Engelage allowed goals on the first three shots of the game before giving way to Josh Unice, who stopped 15 of the 17 shots he faced for the win.
Scott Stajcer made 45 saves in the loss.
Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors 4, Barrie Colts 3
In Mississauga, Michael Pelech scored the winning goal in the second period to lift the St. Michael’s Majors to a 4-3 win over the Barrie Colts in the first game of their Eastern Conference playoff series.
Dustin Ekelman opened the scoring for the Majors before Alex Hutchings, with a pair of goals, and Stefan Della Rovere gave Barrie a two-goal lead. Rob Flick and Jesse Messier counted before the first period ended to tie the game at three.
Peter Di Salvo allowed three goals on 10 shots and then Michael Hutchinson stopped 20 of 21 shots in relief for Barrie. Chris Carrozzi gave up three goals on the first eight shots before giving way to JP Anderson, who turned aside all 19 shots he faced.
Niagara IceDogs 5, Ottawa 67’s 3
In Ottawa, Michael Hasson scored the game-winner in the second period to help the Niagara IceDogs to a 5-3 win over the 67’s in the first game of their Eastern Conference playoff series.
Drew Schiestel, Chris DeSousa, Freddie Hamilton and Andrew Agozzino also scored and Dylan MacEachern added two assists in the win.
Thomas Kiriakou, Logan Couture and Corey Cowick replied and Julien Demers had two assists for Ottawa.
Jeremy Smith stopped 41 of 42 shots for the win while Chris Perugini gave up four goals on 35 shots.
Brampton Battalion 5, Peterborough Petes 2
In Brampton, Evgeny Grachev scored two goals and added two assists to lead the Battalion to a 5-2 win over the Peterborough Petes in the first game of their Eastern Conference playoff series.
Matt Duchene also had two goals and Anthony Peluso added one while Cody Hodgson chipped in with four assists.
Zach Harnden and Sergey Korostin replied for Peterborough.
Thomas McCollum made 25 saves for the win while Jason Missiaen allowed five goals on 39 shots.
