Team Ontario didn't get off to a very good start in their quest to win their third straight Under-17 championship.

Ontario surrendered four first period goals on their way to a 5-3 loss to Finland in their opening game of the 2010 World Under-17 Championships in Timmins, ON.

Alan Quine of the Kingston Frontenacs scored midway through the first period and then Daniel Catenacci of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and Barclay Goodrow of the Brampton Battalion scored early in the second period to cut the lead to one before Finland counted on the powerplay midway through the second period to ice the win.

Oshawa Generals' prospect Lucas Lessio picked up a pair of assists while Goodrow had a single helper in the loss.

Erie Otters' draftee Chris Festarini gave up four goals on 11 shots in one period of work in the Ontario net before Tyson Teichmann of the Belleville Bulls took over in the second period and allowed one goal on 10 shots.

Ontario outshot Finland 39-21, including 18-4 in the third period but were unable to get anything more past Finnish goaltender Richard Ullberg.

Ontario was one-for-nine on the powerplay and allowed one powerplay goal on six chances, including a five-minute major to Carter Sandlak of the Guelph Storm for checking to the head in the second period.

Ontario (0-1-0) has won the past two tournaments and are back in action on Wednesday against Quebec (1-0), who doubled Team West 4-2 on the opening day of the tournament.
