Puck Officially Drops to Start 2009-10 OHL Regular Season

The 2009-10 OHL Regular Season schedule officially began Thursday night with the first four games of the 680 game schedule.

Plymouth 6 - Windsor 5 (SO)

The Plymouth Whalers spoiled the party for the defending OHL and MasterCard Memorial Cup Champions the Windsor Spitfires with a 6-5 shootout win.  Taylor Hall led the comeback charge for the Spitfires factoring in on every Windsor goal with five points including a hat-trick and two assists as first star of the game.  The Whalers were led by second year star Tyler Seguin who scored two goals and one assist plus a shootout goal as third star to help lead Plymouth to the win.  Cam Fowler had four assists for the Spitfires as second star in his OHL regular season debut.  The Spitfires outshot the Whalers 44-23 in the contest in front of a soldout crowd of 6,501 at the WFCU Centre.

Barrie 9 - Owen Sound 1
The Barrie Colts flexed their offensive muscle in their home opener with a big 9-1 win over the Owen Sound Attack.  Newly acquired Colts' forward Luke Pither led the way with four goals including three on the power play as first star of the game.  Colts' Russian import Alexander Burmistrov contributed a goal and two assists.

Kingston 3 - Niagara 2
The Kingston Frontenacs scored three unanswered goals on the road in the second period to beat the Niagara IceDogs 3-2.  Alan Quine, the second overall pick in the 2009 OHL Priority Selection, scored his first career OHL goal for the Fronts.  IceDogs first star and rookie Andrew Fritsch also tallied his first career OHL goal.

Peterborough 2 - Brampton 1
The defending Eastern Conference Champions the Brampton Battalion could not hold onto a second period lead as the home team Peterborough Petes rallied for two goals in the third period to edge the Troops 2-1.  Petes netminder Jason Missiaen was strong in goal as first star making 44 saves in the win.
