It’s been a busy few months for the Guelph Storm as the club prepares for 2017-18 introducing new faces both on and off the ice.

Just days after the 2017 OHL Priority Selection, a draft where the club held five picks in the first three rounds, the Storm welcomed George Burnett to the front office.  The longtime OHL coach and executive replaces retiring GM Mike Kelly and departing coach Jarrod Skalde.

Burnett’s experience joins a youthful roster that could include a trio of 2017 commitments headlined by second overall pick Tag Bertuzzi.  The Oakland Jr. Grizzlies power forward was the first of two Storm selections with OHL bloodlines.  Tag is the son of Todd Bertuzzi, the former Guelph star and 18-year NHL veteran, while second round pick Mason Primeau of the Toronto Nationals is the son of Wayne Primeau who played for Owen Sound and Oshawa before a 15-year pro career.  Also committing this off-season was the Storm’s first of three picks in the third round, Anthony Aguanno, a defenceman with a championship resume having won eight consecutive GTHL titles with the Mississauga Rebels including this minor midget season.  Aguanno also captured an OHL Gold Cup title in May alongside Primeau as members of GTHL Red.

In addition to 2017 commitments, the Storm also signed 2016 sixth round pick Keegan Stevenson who spent 2016-17 with the Soo Thunderbirds Midget AAA.  Stevenson is another second-generation OHL talent following in the footsteps of his father Jeremy who played in the league for Cornwall, Newmarket, and Sault Ste. Marie from 1990-94.

Bertuzzi, Primeau, and third round pick Mark Woolley will represent the Storm at Hockey Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-17 Selection Camp in Calgary on July 22nd.
