September 30 is an exciting day circled on the Erie Otters calendar.
That Saturday night the OHL champions will raise Robertson Cup, Wayne Gretzky Trophy, Hamilton Spectator, and Midwest Division banners before the faithful fans at Erie Insurance Arena reflecting on an incredible CHL historic run of four straight 50-win seasons.
The home opener will also give the first real glimpse into a future that includes Emmett Sproule.
Chosen in the first round, 21st overall, Sproule produced 25 points in 33 games at forward with the Grey-Bruce Highlanders last season then helped Team OMHA Black to a silver medal finish at the OHL Gold Cup. The Otters lone pick inside the first four rounds of the 2017 OHL Priority Selection officially announced his commitment to the club in June and will be a key figure in the Flagship City as the Otters build towards their next banner season.
The summer months have also been busy for the Otters front office with a pair of Hockey Operations announcements including the introduction of Head Coach Chris Hartsburg following the departure of Kris Knoblauch to the Philadelphia Flyers, and a contract extension for General Manager Dave Brown through the 2019-20 season.
Sproule will represent the Otters at Hockey Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-17 Selection Camp in Calgary on July 22nd.
