The future of the Flint Firebirds features Evan Vierling.

Plain and simple, the elite forward will be a significant contributor to any team success in the Vehicle City after being chosen with the club’s highest pick in four years of Priority Selection history, second overall.

The York Simcoe Express star tallied 63 points in 33 games for the OMHA champions including 27 goals and played his way onto the Gatorade All-Star Team at the 2018 OHL Cup Showcase Tournament with an impressive 10 points in six games that included Quarter-Final heroics in overtime.  He also helped Team OMHA Black win Bronze at the OHL Gold Cup before officially committing to the Firebirds in early June.

While Vierling represents the lone Firebird from the 2018 draft class assured a roster spot at this time, the club did receive a recent commitment from 2017 10th round pick Jacob Winterton who posted impressive numbers this season for the OMHA Midget Champion Ajax-Pickering Raiders.

Vierling will be competing at Hockey Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-17 Development Camp from July 21-27 in Calgary along with defencemen Owen Power (2nd round pick) and Michael Bianconi (3rd round pick).

Power is a towering prospect from the Mississauga Reps that was over 6’4” and 210lbs on draft day, while Bianconi helped lead the Toronto Jr. Canadiens defence corps that captured an OHL Cup title.
