OHL 20 in 20 Futures Watch: Mississauga Steelheads
The Mississauga Steelheads made waves this season on the ice by capturing the Bobby Orr Trophy, and off the ice with a pair of first round picks in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection.
Jack Hughes (8th overall) of the Toronto Marlboros and Thomas Harley (14th overall) of the Vaughan Kings were both called in the opening round by the Trout who were the league’s only team in April to choose two players inside the Top-21.
Harley, a defenceman who registered 24 points in 35 games in the GTHL this season, has already announced his commitment to Mississauga and will be part of a club looking to defend their Eastern Conference title in 2017-18.
Joining Harley on the blue line will be Jacob Gravelle, a 12th round pick in 2016 who played last season with the North Bay Trappers who also announced his commitment to the club in May.
In addition to the on ice commitments, the Steelheads made moves in the front office securing Head Coach James Richmond as part of a five-year commitment accompanied by an expanded role as the club’s new General Manager.
Harley and second round pick Keean Washkurak will represent the Steelheads at Hockey Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-17 Selection Camp in Calgary on July 22nd.
