Holding two picks inside the Top-40 of the 2017 OHL Priority Selection, the Oshawa Generals began building with defence before adding a splash of offense to the East Division fold.
Mitchell Brewer patrolled the blue line for the Halton Hurricanes last season then joined the Georgetown Raiders for a playoff run that culminated with a Buckland Cup title. He was chosen 15th overall by the Gennies becoming their first D chosen in the first round since 2013 when it was another Mitchell, last name Vande Sompel, nabbed at 14.
Brewer announced his commitment to the club in May, followed days later by the commitment of Nick Wong who was the club’s second round pick at 38th overall. The forward skated last season with the Mississauga Senators and also tasted championship experience winning the OHL Gold Cup with GTHL Red.
In April the Generals also received commitment from Joe Rupoli, a defenceman chosen in the fifth round of the 2016 draft.
Brewer and Wong will represent the Generals at Hockey Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-17 Selection Camp in Calgary on July 22nd.
