OHL 20 in 20 Futures Watch: Peterborough Petes
The Peterborough Petes are well on their way to building depth at every position following the 2018 OHL Priority Selection.
Butler scored 27 goals and added 30 assists for 57 points in 34 games for the OMHA champion York Simcoe Express last season before his second round selection by the Petes.
Austin was chosen in the third round from the Midget AAA Kanata Lasers where he posted a 2.67 goals-against-average and .909 save percentage in 20 games.
Spearing captained the Toronto Jr. Canadiens to an OHL Cup title producing 19 points in 58 games last season from the blue line and was the club’s fifth pick in April hearing his name called in the fourth round.
All three competed in the 2018 OHL Gold Cup with Spearing bringing home silver with GTHL Red, and Butler earning bronze with OMHA Black.
Austin and Butler will be competing at Hockey Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-17 Development Camp from July 21-27 in Calgary along with defenceman Jack Bar (3rd round pick) and forward Will Cuylle (1st round pick).
Cuylle, chosen third overall, was a dominant power forward with the Toronto Marlboros who would certainly bolster the Petes rebuild if he commits. Bar was a teammate of Butler’s on the OMHA’s Express.
