The Erie Otters raised their 2017 OHL Championship banner to the rafters pre-game, but the Kitchener Rangers would come away with two points on opening night at Erie Insurance Arena. Adam Mascherin (3) and Joseph Garreffa (2) both had a goal and an assist as the Rangers scored three times on 16 shots in a 3-2 victory. Mascherin scored the game winner 3:54 into the third frame as Kitchener improves to 3-1-1-0 on the young season. Rangers goaltender Anthony Dumont-Bouchard turned aside 25 of the 27 shots he faced while veteran winger Jake Henderson (2) also scored and Logan Stanley had a point in his third straight game. Gera Poddubnyi (2) and Christian Girhiny (3) scored for the defending champions who fall to 1-3-1-0 on the campaign.
