Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that forward Tyler Seguin of the Plymouth Whalers is the Boston Pizza OHL Player of the Week for the week ending January 24. A two-time award winner this season, Seguin led the OHL with 11 points in three games scoring five goals and six assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-6.
Seguin tallied three multi-point games for the Whalers this week beginning Monday afternoon on Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Plymouth against the Windsor Spitfires. Seguin opened the scoring at 6:03 of the first period adding a second period assist plus an empty-net goal at 19:46 of the third period for three points in the 7-4 win. He finished his week with back-to-back four point games where he was twice named first star of the game. On Friday night he scored two goals and two assists in the 5-1 win over the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors, and on Saturday he scored a goal with three assists in the 4-2 win over the Peterborough Petes.
Seguin, a 17-year-old from Brampton, ON, currently leads the OHL in scoring in just his second season with the Whalers with 34 goals and 45 assists for 79 points in 44 games played. Last week Seguin captained Team Orr at the 2010 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game, and will compete next week for the Western Conference All-Stars at the 2010 OHL All-Star Classic in Kingston, ON.
A pair of Western Conference All-Stars also slated to appear in the 2010 OHL All-Star Classic receive honourable mention for the award this week including Nazem Kadri of the London Knights and Jeremy Morin of the Kitchener Rangers. Kadri had 10 points in three games scoring three goals and seven assists, while Morin led the league with seven goals plus two assists for nine points in four games. In goal, Mike Morrison of the Kitchener Rangers earned two victories in his first two appearances of the season posting a goals-against-average of 1.07 and a save percentage of .973.
