Windsor Spitfires Introduce the 2009 Spitfire Community Tour of Champions Presented by Tim Hortons

June 16, 2009

(Windsor) At a press conference conducted within the WFCU Centre Monday, the Windsor Spitfires and Tim Hortons introduced a special new community initiative which will provide local charitable groups, schools and organizations with the opportunity to enjoy a three month tour including Windsor Spitfire players as well as the awards won by the team during this past season.  This initiative will be officially recognized as the “2009 Spitfire Community Tour of Champions, Presented by Tim Hortons”.

Windsor Spitfire players headed by captain Harry Young and Eric Wellwood, will be touring Windsor and Essex County with awards earned by the team this season, which include the Memorial Cup, J. Ross Robertson OHL Championship and Wayne Gretzky OHL Western Conference Championship trophies.  The tour was designed jointly by the Windsor Spitfires and Tim Hortons as a program enabling the team to share the passion of their championship performances with the local community.  Please note that all of the trophies mentioned above will not be at every stop as a result of other commitments.

Windsor and Essex County Chrysler Dealers as well as Pioneer Petroleums will also provide the Windsor Spitfires with transportation and complimentary gas cards, enabling the players to travel throughout the local area as part of this groundbreaking community program.  The tour will make its first official stop at Immaculate Conception School in Windsor tomorrow afternoon at 1:10 p.m.

“The Windsor Spitfires are proud to join Tim Hortons, Chrysler and Pioneer Petroleums in offering the wonderful people of Windsor and Essex County with the chance to celebrate our success through this tour.  The support of our community was an instrumental part in our championship run this season and, as an organization, we feel it is extremely important to thank the best fans in the OHL for helping us bring a championship to the City of Windsor”, commented Windsor Spitfires President and Head Coach Bob Boughner.

“As a neighbour and active member of the Windsor/Essex community we are pleased to support the Windsor Spitfire Tour of Champions,” says Rob Trdina, Tim Hortons Store Owner.  “We are committed to giving back to the communities where we live, work and play and being an integral member of the community is very important to us.”
