WMU recruit Tyler Murovich commits to Spirit
(Saginaw, MI) Pittsburgh, PA native Tyler Murovich has committed to the Saginaw Spirit Hockey Club. The 1989 born forward was recruited by Western Michigan University but has decided to pursue his NHL career ambitions with the Spirit and the Ontario Hockey League. He was a highly touted prospect of the WMU Broncos and was expected to be a key factor in the 2008-09 hockey season, in what was to be his freshman year.
"The Spirit organization is excited to welcome Tyler to our family," stated Spirit General Manager Don Edwards. "Having joined our club, he brings tremendous dynamics that will excite our fans. He has a style of play that is reminiscent of several hockey greats -- he has the playmaking skills of Steve Yzerman and the aggressive 'in your face style' of Chris Draper."
Spirit Head Coach Todd Watson expressed similar thoughts about Murovich, "He is a competitor; Tyler is the kind of two way player we expect will contribute to our team right away."
Murovich had a successful 2006-07 season with the Midget AAA Pittsburgh Predators, where he notched 46 goals, 65 assists and 169 PIM in 43 games. Part way through the season Murovich left the Predators to play with the USHL Chicago Steel, where he tallied 7 goals, 6 assists and 82 PIM in 41 games.
"We are thrilled to have a player of Tyler's caliber join our organization," stated Spirit President and Managing Partner Craig Goslin. "We look forward to having the coaches develop his exceptional skills on-ice, and as an entire organization, working together to develop this outstanding young man off-ice."
